    The “Brisbane Does Downton Blouse”

    posted April 12, 2012 / 11 Comments

This is my second blouse from this pattern. Last week I made a VIP version in silk twill which is perfect for “professional” wear (not to mention that silk twill is closer to Downton Abbey than gingham!). Since this week’s challenge is to take inspiration from your city, I decided to see how casual this cut could go. Brisbane is a pretty laid-back place, it moves at the pace you’d expect from a city in a climate of near-perpetual summertime.

the “fleur” of the three-day weekend blouse

    posted April 12, 2012 / 7 Comments

Immediately after seeing the “local color” theme i had an image: clean, elegant, black and white. i could either channel laura bennet from project runway 3 and go “so new york,” but i couldn’t escape the feeling that clean, elegant black and white really said “paris” to me, so paris it is. i wanted something with a statement collar, and went immediately back to simplicity 4255, which is an easy, classy top that brilliantly straddles the line between frosting and cake–as all good tops should.

The Hot In The City get up

    posted April 12, 2012 / 30 Comments

This gorgeous fabric I picked up sometime ago on a trip to ikea, I had no idea at the time what I was going to use it for it just caught my eye so I handed over my dollars and tucked it away into my stash. When I read about this ‘city challenge’ this fabric and Melbourne’s Yarra River came to mind. It’s somewhat literal but I know you lovely ladies won’t mind.

“The English Bluebells & Roses ” top

    posted April 11, 2012 / 17 Comments

During this time of the year for a very limited time ( a week or so) you can spot a stunning and fragrant carpet of blue woodland: Bluebells. Did you know that almost half the global bluebell population is found in the UK? Every year we try to visit a different garden to see them.

About the Sew Weekly

The Sew Weekly began as Mena Trott's attempt to document the process of sewing all of her own clothes in 2010. In 2011, four other contributors (Debi Fry, Adey Lim, Veronica Darling & Sarah Gabbart) joined her and for 52 weeks, they sewed based on a particular weekly theme. In 2012, The Sew Weekly became a much larger group blog with over 130 contributors sewing along each week.
