The “Hasenfeffer Incorporated” Project

I did not make this jacket. Let’s get that out of the way. Remember-my projects will be small. Tiny. Except for next week’s since my favorite projects have been ones where some real sewing has taken place.

I decided to re-do the TV Challenge. I made a dress inspired by Denise Huxtable but what I had really wanted to to do was Laverne from Laverne and Shirley. I know she normally wears her L on the front of her tops but I didn’t want to put mine there. I will probably want to wear this jacket to work and I feel like the S on the front will take away from my edge and the professional, put together image I want to project when I’m there. I am open to putting it on the front if I ever find a really sweet sweater since then it would be more of a “look”. You know what I mean?

I know it’s only a part time seasonal job but guess what? They’ve offered me a job! Starting in January I will begin working full time doing what I love to do. Thank you God!

I didn’t have any ribbon so what I did was take some stretchy type bias tape that I used once to make some undies and ironed a piece of Wonder Under to it. I then folded it in half and ironed it shut. then I ironed another strip of wonder under to it. I drew the S on the way I wanted it then ironed the piece of tape to it. I was able to get the curves nice and smooth because of the stretch of the tape. I sewed it into place by hand.

I wonder if you all know why I sewed an S and not a G. It’s because my name is actually Soo Jin. Gina is a nickname I’ve had since I was a baby.

So there it is.

The Facts:

Pattern: none

Fabric or notions: I used jacket from Salvation Army $4.99 and a little bit of bias tape from stash

Time to make: about an hour

Wear Again: I haven’t worn it but I’m sure I will

I looked up the lyrics for the Laverne and Shirley song and picked it Hasenfeffer Incorporated. I called it a project because I didn’t know what else to call it.

We’re almost there ladies! I’ve missed connecting with you more. I don’t have much time to visit the site these days but I do look at the pictures. You’re all as amazing as ever!

Gina Clark is a girl from Texas living in the Midwest. She has been sewing most of her life but swears every few months that she is giving it up for good.

I adore your jacket, and was tremendously impressed that you found the basic jacket at Salvation Army for $4.99! You’ve updated the look in a beautiful way.

  3. You are such a trooper! I’m very proud of a fellow sewer who has made a commitment to sew and share with all of us the whole year. It’s been so much fun. Your outfits and styling have been so editorial! I looked forward to them every week. Congratulations on your job! S for Soo Jen….that’s very sweet.

  4. Fantastic Gina a huge congrats on the job that’s great news. Great little addition to this fab jacket too.

  5. I have never seen Laverne & Shirley. I have no idea what it is even about. I do love your monogram though – it looks like expensive embroidery, I can’t believe you did it with stretch ribbon. And congratulation on your job. How exciting!

  6. The job news is wonderful Gina, a lovely start to 2013….a new adventure. I love this S. Lavern & Shirley is fantastic tv, I used to watch it religiously as a teenager. Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams are highly underrated comedians, their sense of comedic timing is perfect. I’ve always wanted to add some sequin Ts on my clothes. I hope you make all your dreams come true, doing it your way.
