Total price: Next to nothing….as both pieces of fabric were thrifted treasures
After seeing many versions of this in the stores this year, I decided to try it myself. The back is sheer black and the front is a small piece of sequin fabric. I cut one more front and back from the sheer so that I could totally line it. That makes the arms and neck look so much neater. I turned the lining to the inside through the shoulder openings. Then I sewed the outside shoulder seams and handstitched the lining shoulder seams. After that, I sewed the sides seams of both the lining and outside. I serged the bottom of the top and lining together and then turned it up about a quarter inch and top-stitched.
On the left: Michael Kors Sequin top $260.00 and on the right: Neiman Marcus $148.00
I’m so pleased that I could make something just as lovely for less than $5.00. All it took was skill and time. The end result turned out perfectly. I love the sparkle! What a way to end the year!
It’s been raining cats and dogs for the last three days, but it stopped long enough for my husband and I to go across the street and stand in front of the little park with the gorgeous redwood trees. I was afraid I might get my new Miz Mooz wet but the chips kept me safe.
I dug out my special Eddie Baur velvet pants, pinned them tighter around the waist, put some make up on, and took a few quick shots.
I can’t quite believe it, but I did every single challenge this year! I’ve made great connections and learned so much from all. I wonder what the New Year will bring? Happy New Year to all, and especially Mena. You were the one that made this all possible. Thank you so much.

Cute top! I love how it looks as good as the super-expensive ones – yay for being able to sew! ;-)
I’ve enjoyed following along on your sewing adventures this year Barbara. Have a super lovely New Years!
Love that top! It looks simultaneously special and versatile. I second a cheer for Mena!
