Glory Box Re-Do

Kazzthespazz.com | Wax Print JumpsuitBecause the weather is starting to heat up around these parts I thought i’d go for something fashionably comfortable and revisit The Wandering Star Jumpsuit  made for the UFO challenge earlier in the year. I like jumpsuits and I have worn the Wandering Star many times so if you’re onto a good thing why stray right?
Kazzthespazz.com | Wax Print JumpsuitI found this great wax print on Etsy-6 yards for $25. The quality of the cotton isn’t too good so it’s definitely not the real deal but for a Summer fling! it’s fine, if they fall apart before the love affair ends I’ll visit Vlisco and splurge on the fancy stuff, that place is so dreamy.

I made this in two parts, I cut out the top and shirred it with hat elastic, ruling out lines approximately  1 inch apart with tailors chalk and proceeded to sew the hat elastic on, you all know the drill. I did this in two parts the front and the back obviously and then sewed the two together making one long piece, I find it easier doing the shirring like this because the further on you get the harder it is to manage. Once that was completed I sewed the pants together adjusting the bagginess to what I considered ‘just right’ I only needed to take a little off so there wasn’t too much fabric wastage. I basted the top to the pants stepping into them and was pretty happy with how the front and back crotch area sat so I serged everything into place.
Kazzthespazz.com | Wax Print JumpsuitLovely deep pockets were inserted along with carriers for the tie at the waist.  A loop-turned strap attached to the top centre front ties around my neck to keep things from falling down the shirring makes the top pretty sturdy though so the strap makes for a decorative feature if anything.  I’m wearing the neck piece I made for the yellow challenge here I think it complements the look nicely. I love the fabrics pattern and have been eyeing off  different combinations of wax prints on Pinterest. All that print mixing makes my heart sing.

Will you look at that? I almost blend into the graffiti on this wall.

So next weeks challenge is the last for the year here on The Sew Weekly? I think I’ll complete those two remaining weeks over on my blog, I want to happily smile and SHOUT TO THE WORLD that I made a garment a week for a year, made some really lovely internettie friendships, learned a whole lot of great stuff from you all, got over my inhibitions and really enjoyed myself along the way. What will you talented ladies be doing? Let me know so I can visit your blogs for the remanding weeks.

Looking forward to seeing your final challenges. Yay!!

  1. That is fantastic Kazz – that print is so interesting and your necklace is perfect with it too. You have grown so much in your personal style. I remember one of the first things you made – when you were heavily into panama type fabric, leaning up against the red brick wall. You certainly shown us some fabulous parts of Melbourne and your personal expression is wonderful. Like an exotic Fitzroy bird. What a transformation, the sky’s the limit lovely. Merry Christmas xx

    • Aw thank you Trish, you are so right about the panama, can’t touch that stuff now. Thank you so much for your support and encouraging words. I like that- Exotic Fitzroy Bird. The sky IS the limit and I’m happy to take the ride. Merry Christmas to you and your family xx

  2. Kazz, I think you’re wrong about next week being the last. Dec 24 and 31 are holiday challenges. So be sure to post here. I’ll be back for those last two.

  3. Love this jumpsuit, it looks so stylish and relaxed/comfy at the same time. And the fabric is beyond gorgeous. Love it.

I have to say I thought the same as Erin, I’m doing the fave pattern challenge next week, then I’m doing a dress for Happy Holidays Dec 24 & a final blow-out evening dress for the final challenge Happy Holidays Dec 31 and I’m doing a round-up of my year in that last post…..but I may be possibly posting the last two at the same time….if I get my act together ;)

    • Thanks Tempest, Happy Holidays means have a lovely holiday to me, if you guys are posting then I’ll post too.

Wow you have it all sorted it’s best I get my shizz together then hey?? Looking forward to seeing the final posts here, what an achievement, I’m so proud of us all.

Yeah the network timeout thingy is doing my head in. I’ll have to come back later to talk to Barbara and Loran :(

  4. (aargh why is it so hard to comment, keep getting network timeout)

  5. Just so yummy : ) I have a secret box of “stuff” in my stash that I call “The Kazz Stuff” that I’ll have to pull out and do something with next year. Your voice is so clean and clear, you are an icon.
I’m hoping there are two challenges around Christmas, like Tempest and Erin think. Either way I’m going to do two more ANYWAY and if they get posted here, great. If not I’ll just keep doing it on my own blog.
I started looking into airfares for going to Australia next year. My mother thinks it’s equal part silly and cool. Top of my list is “Take more adventures” for 2013. You never know, I may be asking you for lists of places to go, fabric stores to visit…

  6. I love your jumpsuit! the elastic around the bodice is so flattering. What a great wax pattern. The colors are very cool. I hope the material holds up so that you can get many more wears out of it.
I love those necklaces, how do you make those?

I’ll be following your blog to see all of your latest sewing adventures. I’m not sure how the Holiday challenges are supposed to work, or if it means we have a “holiday from sewing”. I’m a little confused. I hope Mena will clarify what will be happening during that time and her plans for next year.

  7. Oooh…that wax print is stunning! And what a great way to showcase it! This pattern has been one of my favourites of yours, so it’s great to see you make it again!

I think we have at least two more challenges (Re-do and Holiday) and maybe three, if there are two holiday challenges.
