Hot! The “It’s Just a Top” Top

Pattern: Sorbetto top from Colette Patterns
Notions: Embroidery floss
Year: contemporary
Time to complete: About 3 hours
First worn: October 2012
Wear again? Sure

So, the photo is blurry and you can barely see the top I made. It’s a modified Sorbetto from Colette Patterns (see all the Sorbettos I made last year) and there’s isn’t much to write about. That all said, I wanted to get something up since it’s been so incredibly long since I’ve contributed a creation to The Sew Weekly. That doesn’t mean I haven’t sewn an outfit here and there. I actually made something for the polka dot challenge that I wore twice already. But then I never found the time to take photos wearing the thing and the chance to post drifted away.

If I’m so meh about my top this week, why even bother posting? Well, I figured there’s no harm in breaking my streak of not posting. After all, that will only make posting something next week a bit more of a possibility.

Plus, I want to show you all that I’m still alive and well. I just came back from Utah where I spoke at The Sewing Summit about making a Handmade Wardrobe. A day later I threw Penelope’s Fairy-themed 5th birthday party. Hopefully — fingers crossed — I’ll post more about that all.

Mena Trott

Mena Trott started The Sew Weekly to document her attempt to sew all of her own clothes in 2010. Since then, she's made over 125 outfits and has way more clothes than she needs.

  1. Welcome back! It’s good to see (and hear) that you are sewing, and well.

  2. Linking back to 7 Days of Sorbetto allowed me to catch up. Although, how I’d missed that post is beyond me. Was missing you! So cute: (you + doggy + sorbetto)!

  3. Nice to see you back. I know exactly your feelings, though I have had a lot of major life things happening too that have prevented me from sewing. Anyway, there will be something in the next couple of weeks or so! It’s cut out and part sewn … Once again, I’ll say I love your doggie …

  4. Great to see you back and looking great with navy top paired with jeans and doggie! I’d love to hear more about your sewing summit in Utah.

  5. Love your new sorbetto.. Looks cute with the jeans.. Happy sewing..Proud you had fun at the summit.. Can’t wait to see photos of Penelopes party..

  6. I’d love to see a close-up detail of your embroidery. It looks like a fantastic little flourish to your “staple” Sorbetto!

  7. I wish I lived over your way, Sewing Summit? it sounds so fancy, what did you wear? Looking forward to hearing all about it.

  8. I absolultely loved getting to listen to you speak at Sewing Summit. I wished I’d had a minute to pick your brain after you were done! You have been inspiring me since way before The Estate Sale (the first one) and I’m so glad to see you back here. Also, I really need to make myself a sorbetto or six.

  9. When is a top just a top? It’s never JUST a top with you Mena. Love the colours of that embroidery, any chance you can add a pic of it close-up on a future post? I’ve been spotting people saying very good things about your talk to the Sewing Summit…and I only just spotted on the internet your tv spot with Nancy the other day, thank you for making sewing fun!!
