The “I Heart Shakespeare” Dress
I had grand plans for a vintage pattern that I keep meaning to make up, paired with this plaid cotton that I picked up from the Sew Weekly Swap. Yes, the pattern envelope said that I would not have enough fabric, but what do they know?! Turns out, they had a pretty good idea. Grrr – I just hate when that happens . . .
My first thought was to let this week’s challenge pass me by. But I did have the perfect fabric from a Sew Weekly event, so I really wanted to make something with the yardage.
After perusing a few possibilities from my stash, I came up with Vogue 8555. Yes, there were a few seams that would have to be matched, but if I cheated and cut the midriff on the bias, any flubs would not look quite so egregious. Turns out, this particular plaid was easy to match. Goody!
I am very pleased with how the dress turned out. It makes the perfect transition from Summer to Fall. The colors and plaid design makes it very Fall, but it is lightweight, so it is possible to wear in warm weather and when paired with tights, it will work when it gets colder!
