Hot! TGIF in Blue!

Thank Goodness It’s Friday Skirt in Blue!

Thank goodness it’s Friday and I have something to share this week. This is a pretty blue skirt that was once a very long skirt with a very tight waistline and pockets. I love the fabric, a soft wrinkle free rayon or something that has a nice drape and feel. It is navy blue with pink, yellow, and light blue flowers. This was a great find a few weeks ago at my favorite thrift store, the one that has all kinds of fabric for only $1.00 a yard. The skirt was a mere $2.00 so I bought it along with several yards of fun material for future projects.

I cut about 10 inches of the bottom of the skirt and used it for a waistband to go on the top. I had just enough straight of grain to fashion the band. It was close! So close that the inside of the band is lined with wide bias trim. I cut off the too-tight waist, and sewed up the side pockets. Then I inserted wide elastic inside the band and adjusted it to fit. Finally I serged the bottom of the skirt, folded it up, and top-stitched it.

The RTW blouse has been hanging around in my closet for about 10 years. I love this little blouse, but I haven’t worn it very much. I think it goes really well with my new blue skirt. What do you think?

I’m so glad its Friday! It has been a rather long exhausting week with my middle schoolers. I’m looking forward to a little RnR this weekend.

Hey, we’re almost there! Some of us haven’t missed a week and will have completed 9 months at the end of September. That’s a lot of sewing! Can you believe it? I’ve had such a wonderful time sharing and interacting with all of you. Enjoy your sewing this week!

Barbara is a resident of Northern California. She loves to sew and has pledged not to buy retail clothes for the year of 2012. That means she has to make her own, or buy it at a thrift store. I hope she doesn't spend too much on fabric. When she shops for fabric her eyes light up as she imagines the possibilities! She's like a kid in a candy store.

  1. She looks darling Barbara, the blouse sits beautifully.

Have a well earned rest Barbara you deserve it.

We enjoy interacting with you too, what a great year of sewing it’s been. I’ve loved every minute of it. Not long to go till we hit the finish line :)

  2. Love your skirt and the top is adorable.. Enjoy your weekend.

  3. Excellent refashioning example. Kudos to you for repurposing something frumpy into something very cute and becoming. I think you could even raise the hem a smidge to show off your nice gams. And your top is absolutely adorable—fully intend to recreate somehow. Congrats on your persistence!

  4. Such a lovely skirt! And love your blouse too. It’s great to be able to spot potential refashionable pieces. I dont usually have an eye for it and our thrift stores arent as extensive as those in the States.

Hope you had a great weekend.

  5. Lovely outfit you have there. I’m impressed that you made a waist band I probably would have just done and elastic waist.

  6. I can hardly believe we’re down to our last 13 posts after this week… Your whole outfit is just so ‘you’ and cute : )

  7. Gorgeous skirt, and I admire your stamina. 39 weeks!

  8. Great re-make! And yay for getting all those weeks done!
