Peter Pan is one of my favorite books that was read to me as a kid. I knew I wanted to make the night gown that Wendy took flight in. I could sew Peter’s shadow back on again!

My fabric is French Cotton, soft, light weight, a pleasure to sew. The Fabric had a 1 side border of larger flowers so I intentionally cut it to be the bottom border and upper bodice front & back.

I watched “the Sew Beautiful Magazine Blog Tour” on YouTube that demo heirloom sewing techniques. It was a wealth of information on insertion lace, needle tucks, pin tucks and even techniques and tips for lace shaping. It gave me confidence and ideas to tackle this project.

I chose a laced that has a cream velvet ribbon woven through the center. I did the band across the bodice, then I used the same lace as an edging for the neckline and cuffs by sewing the velvet ribbon flushed to the edge.

Theres’s some tucks at the bottom of the gown to add weight and it makes a nice drape.

A thimble for a kiss, a huge thank you to my husband for the beautiful photos. I can’t wait to fly to our next vacation.

  1. That first picture looks like the ride at Disneyland, still one of my favorites. Your photoshopping skills are pretty good : ) Nice job on the nighty, but did you ever get Peter’s shadow sewn back on?

    • Hi loran, I’m probably one of the few who have never been to Disney land or world but I’ll take your word for it. I did have a lot of fun with the photo shoot. and of course I used my mad sewing skills on the shadow otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to take flight. ;)

  2. Peter Pan is one of my favorite books Ever! I love your Wendy nightgown :)

  5. So glad to see something from Peter Pan! I was thinking of doing a sort of Peter/Wendy mash-up but couldn’t motivate myself to finish it… maybe in a few weeks.
I absolutely love the details–so delicate. And the flying photos are great.

  6. Hi Z, yes I loved Peter Pan and it gave me a chance to sew something different.
