The “Generic Metal” Skirt

I don’t have a specific song, group, or album cover that this skirt is inspired by it just feels like what I would wear if I were suddenly fronting a band.  I bought this fax leather stuff on a super sale last year planning to make a different skirt but after my first run at that one had fit issues and my Burda Style dress went so well I decided to give their skirt a go instead.  I decided to live dangerously and just did a basted fitting.  Thankfully the fit is just as I like it.  That is sitting a bit below my natural waste and fitted but not digging in anywhere.  I also choose to make it fully lined since it feels more like a winter skirt and I’d rather not need a slip and leggings.  I guess that’s about it.  Not the most exciting post I know but a big win for me as I’ve now got a skirt pattern that I really like.

The Facts

Fabric: 2 yards of fax leather like stuff and 2 yards of lining.  Both with enough left to make one for Emily this winter.

Notions: 12 in invisible zipper  After realizing that I don’t like having to shimmy skirts over my tush I bought a longer on.

Pattern: Skirt from the Burda Style book 2011

Time to complete:  about 4  hours including the fitting

First worn: For pictures

Wear Again:  It feels like a fall and winter garment so not until then.

  1. Oh, that is a rockin’ skirt, you need to play up that lining! The lining is so fun, for sure the lining would get notice. It will be loads of fun to wear with your daughter, break out the guitars for your encore.

  2. Cute skirt, like the lining.

  3. Yay for good skirt patterns! They’re the best. Your skirt is cute and I love the lining.

  4. Faux leather-very sexy! How can you call faux leather “not exciting”? I ove your lining too!

    • Thank you! It is very exciting to me to have a skirt pattern that fits well. I think I just meant that I didn’t have a fun extended story about the construction or inspiration. I think it will add a fun bit of spice to my mom style wardrobe.

  5. Love that lining and isn’t it great getting a fit on a skirt you like and can use again! We have the same shoes too :)
