The “DVF Knock-Off Wrap” Dress

I am a big fan of the Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress.  Generally, the polyester and psychedelic prints of the 1970s leave me cold, but her classic wrap dress has stood the test of time.  And I love her use of the color green.

So when this season’s new Vogue patterns came out, I thought that 8827 would make a lovely knock off version.

Granted, the collar is not exactly true to a DVF design, but it is rather fabulous, and it fit in with this week’s challenge.

This fabric was a great find over on fabric.com.  I have been hoarding it for a couple of years now, waiting for the perfect pattern.  It is very lightweight, so I wanted to avoid using a zipper.  Well, a wrap dress fits into that category!  And the green print reminded me of some of those classic wrap dresses.

Halfway through the sewing process, I decided that there was too much lime color in the print, and the dress was fitting like a bathrobe.  Then I remembered my love of the gemstone peridot, and decided to get over myself.  And if the end result looks like a bathrobe, well, it is just too comfortable not to wear!
