I’m so excited to tell you about this incredible outfit! On Aug 12, My youngest daughter and I went to Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco, CA, which is posting day for the Sew Weekly, hence, my tardiness. We found parking right away along side Golden Gate Park, packed up our bags, and headed into the park. Luckily for us, all of the musicians that we planned to see were all playing on the same stage. Of course our whole reason for going was to see the incredible Regina Spektor sing her songs and play the piano. You see, Leah and I have loved her for years and we decided a long time ago that where ever she planned to perform, we would even fly to see her live. Well, we didn’t have to fly, just drive three hours to the city to finally enjoy her live on stage. The lineup for the afternoon was FUN, Franz Ferdinand, Regina Spektor, Jack White, and then Stevie Wonder.
Let me tell you that the whole thing was quite an experience. I’ve been to concerts in the past, where you have assigned seats, but never anything like this. We were determined to get as close as we could to the stage. So holding hands, mother in tow, we squeezed forward inch by inch, bodies touching bodies, until we were as close and as tight as we could get. Mind over claustrophobia, and trying to not to be too concerned with comfort or safety, we enjoyed her set with tears in our eyes. We were there! We were with her! Regina, I made this lace top especially for you and proudly wore it in your honor. Every time I wear it, I will be reminded of this fabulous experience with my daughter. Years ago, Leah and I made a few music videos together, she would lip-sync the songs and I would film. Then we would spend days editing and perfecting them. We haven’t made such elaborate vids in a long time, but we did put together a tiny clip of us at the concert for you all. It’s at the end of the blog.
I came across a handful of Step by Step Sewing patterns the other week at the thrift and at 10 cents a piece, I knew I couldn’t go wrong. I made the straight skirt which was super easy. I made it extra wide so that I could take it in on the sides to fit exactly how I wanted. I believe these patterns come with additional instruction cards or something, because there were no instructions included. I really didn’t need them, however. I didn’t wear the skirt to the concert because, it would have been too hard to sit on the ground. Plus you never can count on warm weather in SF.
As you can see, pants and sweaters were a must on Sunday. Towards the evening, after a full afternoon of music, we skipped out on Stevie Wonder, and headed for the car. Unfortunately, that great parking spot came along with a parking ticket for $80.00 bucks! It did seem too good to be true even though we parked there just like more than 40 other cars! Despite that, I’m glad I was so up for it. I must be a superwoman, because everyone there was between 18 and 35! That’s one for the bucket list, I’d say. Short video starring Rengina Spektor, lace blouse, and thousands of fans!
