Fabric: Skirt is made of upholstery fabric from IKEA, the yoke and pokes of poly cotton.

Pattern: Simplicity 2451. Considered on of 2010 best patterns by Pattern Review

Pattern Description: Misses’ skirt sewing patterns, each in two lengths. Easy to Sew Collection. I made View D, the pleated front mini-skirt version.

Year: Modern

Notions:Lots of buttons.

Time to complete: 4 hours

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes and better.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy. Great simple pattern.

What’s skills: Buttons, piping and slash pocket. I found Sewaholic slash pocket tutorial very useful and used her tips.

Did you make any alterations or modifications? yes, added a placket for my buttons instead of zipper.

First worn: July 2012

Wear again? Yes.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The front pleas, the pockets, everything. It’s so very shape flattening and comfortable.

Will you make it again? Yes, for shape D. Not sure I like A or B.

Conclusion: Perfect pattern. It’s comfortable to wear as it feels like jeans but a lot more fun!

Hey girls, I’m so sorry I haven’t been sewing that much but I always keep an eye here for inspiration. You are all guilty of adding more patterns to my wish list. Sew happy! xx

  1. Love the combo of colors. The orange is a great pop of color and the buttons are cool down the back. Our the comfortable to sit on?

  2. Hey Rachael, great to see you here! You look stunning and the skirt looks great! How good are Ikea fabrics? I just bought a whole stack for yet another 50′s dress but might paint some details on it before I sew it. Lovely blue sky in the UK too!

    • Hi Trish, I love the Ikea fabrics… some are not suitable but as long it feels nice on your fingers it should be ok to wear. The photos were taken one day before we started to have rain everyday… how lucky is that!
