Hot! The “Super Emily” Dress

On Trend you say?  Um I’m not really all that trendy as it turns out so I did a google search and was told by Glamour magazine that mixing prints is a trend to keep for summer 2012 but letting one print be the star of an otherwise plain outfit was a trend to delete.  That and oh so many other things that I like.  Oh well.  I ended up making a knit dress for Emily using 3 prints one of which is super girl.  It was a fun little dress to make mostly because I didn’t really use a pattern.  I did use the bodice piece for a knit sundress but traced between sizes, added length, and completely changed the skirt.  Sometimes is so much fun to just go to my room and be creative.

Speaking of being creative.  I’m still not much of a photo editor so I asked my husband if he could jazz these up a bit.  The following is what he came up with.

The Facts

Fabric:1/2 yard super girl knit, 1/2 stripe knit, and a little bit of back with white polk a dot knit

Pattern: I used the bodice of an Otto knit dress

Year: 6/2010 issue I think at the moment its just a loose piece floating around the sewing room

Notions: double needle for binding and hemming

Time: about an hour

First Worn: for pictures

Wear Again: I hope so.  Not for fighting dragons though.

Stephanie mother tried to teach her how to sew growing up but she didn't really get serious about it until her 4 year old daughter was born and she wanted to put her in fancy smocked dresses. Since then, she has learned to smock and sew. Her blog and screen name come from the initials of her two children Elijah who is 8 and Emily who is 4.

  6. Superhero (or heroine) dresses rock – plus the red stripes match the colours in Supergirl’s outfit and feel very at one this week with the amount of red, white and blue around. Emily is such a cutie.
