I have fallen in love with this pattern. The linen was a dream to work with and sewed up rather quick with few pieces to the pattern. The drape and hemline are becoming a favorite of mine, the dress style of comfort but modern.

Queen in the Garden

I never heard about the Diamond Jubilee prior to the SewWeekly Challenge. So I did some research and was inspired by the colors and picture of the Queen in the Garden.

I then read the article and hence, the reason I named the dress…Seeing the somewhat austere frontage of Buckingham Palace, relieved only by the bright colours of the guardsmen’s ceremonial uniforms, you would be forgiven for thinking the rest of the grounds are equally barren. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth! Because, hidden behind Buckingham Palace is the Queen of England’s secret garden – the largest private garden in London.

This dress was perfect for a stroll through the Bronx Botanical “Monet’s Garden” Exhibit. The flowers were breathtaking. I think I caught the feeling of the inspiration photo but some day I think I would like to visit the Queen’s Garden in person.

  1. That’s a great color on you! It looks perfect for spring and summer. Well done.

  2. Thanks Jennifer. I love linen because it’s so comfy but I wish it didn’t wrinkle so much.

  3. You look great. That dress is such an interesting shape.

  4. Love the color, the linen, and he garden!!

    • Thanks Liz, will definitely do another trip to the garden. It’s open for a few months and they will periodically be changing out the flowers as the show progresses through the season.

  5. Perfect for a garden stroll. And what a beautiful color too!

    • Hi Liz, I was originally going to do this green like the pattern cover but then it wouldn’t match my inspiration photo. I really liked the green you chose for your suit.

  6. I always write down your pattern choices because you pick the really flattering draped dresses. This is what I love about your style, you certainly know how to flatter your silhouette. I think this would look great in black jersey with heavy boots on change the neckline and voila. Awesome stuff Krista

    • Thanks Kazz, I agree perfect with a pair of Dr. Martines. Since I love to sew jersey I’ll keep it mind for a future challenge. Loved your animated gif, everyone’s going to hit you up for how to’s!

  7. You definitely look like part of the scenery in your pretty dress. Lovely drape detail and beautiful colour on you. I’m sure the Queen would let you stroll around her garden in it!

    • Hi Casey. I’m sure Monet would admire the Queens Gardens. It was really interesting to read about, who knew SweWeekly would also be a history lesson.

  8. You always pick such fabulous spots to photograph your creations in and around! Isn’t it amazing the things we learn while doing these challenges? Great job, beautiful outfit, can hardly wait to see what you do next!

  9. Hi Loran, thanks. Hope you had a fantastic weekend. Tell me, did you back for Memorial Weekend to present Rosie? I agree, I learn so much from the challenges but also a lot from home people present their take on it.

  10. I love dresses like this. Once I put them on I want to live in them. Your dress is beautiful. That color is so pretty and looks great on you.

  11. Yes, I agree with Gina, I could wear that all day! Love the color and the pretty garden and flower shots.

  12. Hi Barbara, thanks. I plan on wearing this all summer.
