The “Lookout Mommy” Swimsuit

That’s right the younger cuter model of the house hold is back for the week.  Emily was in need of a new swimsuit and I just could not bring myself to take her shopping for one.  It would have been far too traumatic for both of us if say the Hello Kitty suit hadn’t fit plus I’d been itching to try my hand at swimsuit sewing for a while and one for a 4 year old is much less involved then an adult suit.  Though this shoot was hard since she was obsessed with throwing water balloons at me.

This is the swimsuit from Ottobre 3/2011.  The fabric is hot pink swim fabric purchased at JoAnn’s.  As per the usual the otto directions were not written for beginners so I read all the tutorials on this blog.  It actually went surprisingly well.   I had to be a little careful because the fabric wanted to bunch under the back of my walking foot but all things considered it was much easier then I expected.  I made it with the width of a 104 and the length of a 110.  I had her try it on before I put in the elastic to see how much it needed to be pulled in and all was well.  The pattern didn’t have elastic measurements but she didn’t need it to be super tight so I just cut it a bit smaller then the opening for the neck and arms.  For the legs I looked at this tutorial.

Stephanie mother tried to teach her how to sew growing up but she didn't really get serious about it until her 4 year old daughter was born and she wanted to put her in fancy smocked dresses. Since then, she has learned to smock and sew. Her blog and screen name come from the initials of her two children Elijah who is 8 and Emily who is 4.

That looks so cool and thank you for those links, I think I’ll make my youngest one as we’ve just been through the annual visiting every shop that sells swimsuits on the planet……she’s at that stage between sizes, which I’m sure you know all to well with your two. Lovely pics of her despite you being in the line of fire! :)
