The “Folk Festival” Dress

I’ve seen a lot of floral-print pants this summer, but when I try them on I feel like I’m bringing back the ’80s in a bad way. So I decided to translate the floral trend into a dress!

I used a pattern I’ve sewn before, and what a great idea that turned out to be! It sews up much faster the second time around, and I knew how to get the fit just right.

The Facts

Fabric: Victoria, Part of the Jennifer Paganelli Crazy Love collection from Sew, Mama Sew

Pattern: Colette Patterns Peony. This is the second Peony I’ve made, the first being my Owl Dress with three-quarter sleeves.

Year: Current

Notions: Invisible zipper and a green button to close the belt

Time to complete: About 4 hours

First worn: To the Brooklyn Folk Festival, followed by birthday drinks for a friend. Everyone at the birthday shindig said my dress was very “folky,” so I guess it was appropriate.

Wear again? Yes, already have!

Total price: $25, not including the cost of the pattern

And here’s a really good reason to wear this dress: the butterflies love it!

  9. Lovely dress. One of the things I’m really loving about Sew Weekly is seeing the variety of versions we can make of a simple pattern, your Owls and this floral look totally different but amazingly are the same pattern, it’s so fab! Beautiful colour, it suits you so well and contrasts so beautifully with your hair (which I am mega jealous of btw).
