Hot! The “Love” Shirt

Ladies this one is going to be reasonably short and sweet.  I’ve never been to Vegas and don’t have any real desire to go except that I’d like to see the Cirque Du Solei show LOVE.  So in honor of that I made myself a lovely heart print Taffy Blouse.

I’m pretty pleased with it.  The fabric was a pain to sew and I didn’t do well making my own bias tape so I just bought a pack.  Happily I really like the final product and feel like myself in it.  There’s something wonderfully demure about it I think.  Plus its quite hard to find something that goes with ones florescent pink shorts but this blouse totally fits the bill.

The Facts

Fabric: 2 yards of sheer poly from Jo-Ann

Notions: navy narrow double fold bias tape and fry check

Pattern: Colette Taffy Blouse from the Sewing Handbook

Time to Complete: 4 hours or so

First Worn: For pictures

Wear Again:  For sure like I said not much goes with these shorts

Total Cost:  No idea the fabric has been around for a while so how ever much bias tape costs.  I spent $20 at Jo-Ann on that trip but that’s just because I thought of so much other stuff that I needed while I was there.

Stephanie mother tried to teach her how to sew growing up but she didn't really get serious about it until her 4 year old daughter was born and she wanted to put her in fancy smocked dresses. Since then, she has learned to smock and sew. Her blog and screen name come from the initials of her two children Elijah who is 8 and Emily who is 4.

  1. That’s so pretty and a totally original take on the theme.

  2. I like the contrast of the navy bias tape. You can’t beat feeling like yourself in the clothes you make. That is my highest ideal.

  3. You are not going to believe this, but I made the Taffy blouse out of the exact fabric! There’s a picture on my FB page – (hopefully that link will work!)

It was the first time I used that type of fabric and the lady at the store told me a trick – fabric stiffening spray! Worked like a charm and I even had some success at the bias tape! I wasn’t crazy about the neck opening though, but I think it looks flattering on you!

  4. This blouse is really lovely. I especially like the sleeves.

  5. Gorgeous heart print Taffy.

  6. Very cute, and a great pairing, that shirt and shorts!

  7. Oh I love that you were inspired by the Cirque show! What a great twist on the inspiration, and a very nice taffy blouse!

  8. Great shirt, looks super comfy to wear and sounds like its a wardrobe builder since it could be paired to a lot of different outfits.

  9. Perfect fabric for that top.. and for your shorts. Always good to sew something you know you’ll wear over and over.

  10. Very sweet! I think it’s important to make things for these challenges that you will actually wear on a regular basis. Otherwise it seems like wasted effort.

  11. It’s really cute!! I totally admire anyone willing to wrangle with bias tape, lol.

  12. I love a light feminine blouse and you have made a very pretty one. I especially like the sleeves.

  13. This is a lovely top! The sleeves are adorable. I used the LOVE show as my inspiration too :-)
