‘My sister is a clover’ Dress

SW Theme and inspiration: Celebrating Mothers. I choose to celebrate my dear Grandmother Rosa. Although she passed away twenty years ago, her absence is still very much missed. She was such strong woman, raising 7 children by herself with the early death of my grandfather. My mom at the time was only a 3 month baby!
I don’t have many photos of her but when I think of her, her beautiful smile come to my mind.
Here is one of the few photos I have of her in her youth.

She is personal inspiration to me as she was so humble, kind and just. A strong women in character. Don’t even get me start on her domestic talents. She could sew anything and her food was amazing.
Fabric: Accordingly with Suzy, its stretch bio suiting and she paid £3.50 per metre. I got it free on recently London Swap. Suzy used the fabric to sew Colette’s Clover, hence the name of this post. I don’t have sisters, only a very handsome brother. I think that all my sewing friends are like sisters I never had.
Pattern: McCall’s 6308
Year:Modern
Notions: Self made bias biding
Time to complete: 3 hours
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes. Having consider the changes I made.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very simple.
Did you use new skills or a particular skill: No.
Did you make any alterations or modifications?
The pattern has gathers under the bust and on the skirt pattern. I didn’t have enough of the fabric to create the full skirt effect where you cut the pattern 4 times, so I just cut a pencil skirt pattern instead. The pattern calls for elasticated gathering on the shoulders too but I liked without, so I ignored it.
First worn: May 2012
Wear again? Yes. For a party not to university. Apologies for my tired face. Full time MBA is killing me.
Will you make it again? Yes, full length in jersey
Conclusion: This pattern is very versatile and perfect for Brazilian weather. My mom love this style so for mother’s day I will be making her a couple of those dresses.

This looks like such an easy to wear dress, and I love that it has a “sister.” Lovely. :)
Thank you StephC x
Fabulous fit, Rachel! As always!
So stylish! Not to sound like I was staring at your boobs, but those bodice gathers are divine! Fab job!
Beautiful dress! That’s great that you will be making some for your mom too. I like the alterations that you made. Great job!
