Friends, I LOVE this dress, but to be 100% honest, I did not love it until after the 8th hour of working on it. I was disgusted with the pleats, the fit was all over the place, and the linen was picking up every bit of thread that had been thrown away in the last three months.  I was highly annoyed … and then I attached the collar.

Once I made the little bow and stepped back to look at the effect, I was blinded by love.  It took several more fittings before I felt like the dress was flattering to my figure, but in looking back, it was worth it.

This pattern did not include a great many directions in regards to the pleats, which gave me a headache first.  I finally realized that it was nearly the same method as installing a vent in a pencil skirt.  Once I got over that mind block, I was home free.

I picked this blue linen because there was enough fabric to cut out all the pieces of the pattern.  At the time, that seemed like the most important thing.  As I started the preliminary fittings, I thought perhaps it was a blessing in disguise that I had had enough fabric because the color just worked perfectly.  I’ve been wanting to add more color into my work wardrobe, and this works perfectly!  While I hate that linen wrinkles so incredibly easy and manages to act as a lint attractor for any nearby surface, I love the look of this dress when it is neatly pressed.  The pleats!  I cursed you pleats, during hour 4, but you showed me that you were worth it. Please forgive me.

This is going to sound corny, but this is probably my favorite zipper job EVER. It is straight, neatly tucked away under the fabric, and the bits that show through match perfectly. I may or may not have had a glass of wine to celebrate the victory over the zipper.

I would say that this is my favorite dress yet this year.  The color, the cut, and the style of the whole piece makes me giddy!  But I can’t get too excited – I don’t want to wrinkle myself.

After seeing all the lovely dresses that the wonderful contributors are posting, I think I may need to try watching Mad Men at last :)

Thanks for stopping by, friends!
