Hello everyone! This is the first challenge I have participated in and I am so excited! Between quilting, sewing up the patterns for Sew Colette, and reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (and letting that take over my life) I haven’t had much time for other sewing. I knew that I needed to change that and wanted to make a dress, so I decided to make a dress with a pattern I used for the first time a year ago. What a difference a year makes!

When I sewed this pattern the first time I was new to sewing and it took months to complete! I struggled with reading the pattern and understanding what all the words and symbols meant. Now, one year later, it took me several hours spread out over only a few days. Everything went so smoothly and there was no confusion at all, not even with the pockets!

I feel like a zipper snob, now that I have learned how to install an invisible zipper I don’t want to use any other kind! Sorry for the poor quality of the last few photos, but my “photographer” (husband) was busy (watching ESPN). I guess that’s what I get for asking for a photo shoot during the NBA season :)

Miss Crayola Creepy

In my past life I was a flapper. Today, I am not as exciting. I just like to read, sew, quilt, cook, obsess over Old Hollywood stars, and design things on the computer.

  8. It looks really cut on you with the little belt. The red is fab!

  9. Oh my gosh. This is my go-to dress pattern. Seriously, I sew one every summer in a different patterned fabric. Yours is lovely. Also, I do like the invisible zipper but highly recommend a visible zipper in a contrasting color. Adds a little spunk. Good job!

  10. Nice work. Happy first post.

  11. nice job! once i learned the tricks to invisible zips I never went back to the regular kind, at least in clothes.

also reading the girl with the dragon tattoo took over my life, too, so for the other two books in the series i got the audio book version and listened while sewing. this was great in two ways – one, i read the books faster than i would have normally and since i was so captivated by the books i sewed for longer periods of time because i wanted to keep listening to what happened next in the story!

  12. The dress is STUNNING on you! I love it with the black accessories – very polished and elegant and oh-so-versatile. Excellent work!

  13. OoOoOh you look amazing I love the cut on that dress. Gorgeous work.

  14. Hey you! Ima say it again, you look great and so does the dress.
