The last few things I have sewn have been decidedly monotone so when I saw that the theme for this week was red I was delighted. I love red. Bright red, dark red, pinky red, orangey red. All of them.

My first plan was to go through my fairly substantial stash to find something red, or red-ish and make up a wiggle -ey dress. But, although the cupboard is pretty much groaning under the weight of the fabric shoved in there I couldn’t find anything that seemed appropriate! Know the feeling?? Then I saw this red wool on ebay. There was only a metre available so the dress idea had to go out of the window but I was still determined to make something wiggle-y – I mean it is Valentine’s week after all!

I therefore turned to my trusty pencil skirt pattern – Vogue 8640. I have made this skirt a couple of times before so know it goes together fairly quickly (always a bonus!) and I have now got the fit down to a T. To add to the challenge though I decided to change the slit at the back to a kick pleat and line the skirt. I followed Sunni’s instructions for adding a kick pleat – which are brilliant. And then there was the lining….let’s just say it’s a good job it’s on the inside!

Overall though I’m more than happy with this skirt. I love the colour – a perfect antidote to winter and perfect  for Valentine’s!!
