This was another UFO. I got stuck on the tricky shoulders. It has sat unmade and unloved for months.

Even as I was getting the sleeves in (more gathering) the fit continued to look strange. I ended up taking a big chunk from the back (I didn’t bother with the zip – thanks Wool Jersey). This had the effect of hitching up the sleeve heads up into position. I think sometimes you just have to stay with things sometimes.

I really like the 40’s look of this top. I was watching my favorite childhood movie – Xanadu (1980) while I was sewing – I just love that whole 40’s/80’s mash up sequence.

I have run out of Ball Point Needles, so just used a normal needle to put it together. I hope I don’t find holes after I wash it.

I am pretty pleased with how it came out – I love wearing layers of wool in winter – so cozy and comfy and pretty with my new dress clips!

More on the dress clips and the Xanadu video over on my blog

Trish lives in Sydney and has way more thrifted patterns and fabric than her fair share. She studied fashion design in her former life and sews while trying to not to burn the dinner.

  9. Thanks ever so ladies. Gotta psych myself up to attack my Mad Men dress today. Casey – lets not talk about Lincr*p either – disgusting, no effort, bad offer, overpriced, distracted – am I a book shop, or perhaps a venetian blind shop. I can feel a blog post about what makes a good fabric shop coming on!
