The “What Have I Gotten Myself Into” Skirt
Name & Location: Kat Lane – Gold Coast, Australia.
Blog: Petticoats & Peplums
How long have you been sewing: I learnt to sew when I was in primary school but I have only be sewing consistently for just over 3 years.
Why did you want to commit to The Sew Weekly Challenge: In 2011 I didn’t sew as much as I wanted to but when I did sew it was because it was for a certain occasion. I realised that having a sewing deadline helps to motivate me a lot. In 2012 I really wanted to get my sewing mojo back and I thought Sew Weekly would be the perfect opportunity.
What do you love most about sewing garments: I love being able to see something I like that I might not be able to afford or is vintage and not in my size and use that as inspiration to create a one off outfit. Also, the satisfaction of someone complimenting you on an outfit you made yourself is a great motivator.
What do you hate most about sewing garments: Cutting patterns and fabric is my least enjoyed step of the sewing process. What I tend to do is put on a good tv show or movie and plonk myself down with a bunch of patterns and fabric and spend a few hours cutting away. That way I can do a bunch of sewing before I have to think of cutting anything out again.
What do you want to accomplish this year with regard to the challenge: I would like to push myself a bit more with my sewing and try some techniques that I might have been to scared to try last year. I also want to start wearing more handmade to reduce the amount of new clothes I am buying.
Your biggest non-sewing goal of 2012: My biggest goal this year is to make our house feel more like a home. We have been in our house for 2 years and it still doesn’t feel like “our” house. We are moving in 2 weeks to a new place and I want to really put the effort in to making it feel more “us”.
What are your favorite sewing/fashion blogs: There are so many I can’t even list them all. One of my favourite Aussie blogs has got to be Veronica Darling. And of course you can’t go past Elegant Musings for some vintage inspiration.

I absolutely adore this skirt, Kat! It reminds me of a Kate Spade RTW skirt I was drooling over a few seasons ago, but even cuter. Love it. :D
Thank you! That is exactly what I thought of when I saw the material.
What a cute look!
And I believe we’re kind of neighbors. I’m in Brisbane.
