The ‘Stars and Stripes’ Skirt

Fabric – A pale blue cotton drill and blue and white striped cotton

Pattern – The Kasia skirt from Burdastyle

Year – 2009

Notions – Zip and 6 Star buttons – I love the buttons!

Time to Complete – Probably about 8 hours, I am pretty slow sometimes…

First Worn – Today! January 2012

Wear again? Probably when the weather warms up a bit and when I’ve lost a bit of weight, it’s a bit too tight on me at the moment.

Total Price - Well I’m really happy with the skirt in that everything came from my stash bar the buttons. That’s my big resolution for this year, to try and use up what I already have. The pattern was free, the buttons were £3/$4.60, the fabrics were left over from previous projects and the zip was something I’d had for ages too, so maybe £10 all in all.

Usually when I am making dresses or skirts I omit the pockets because they can emphasize my tummy or because I’m feeling lazy! However, I decided to go along with instructions and make the pockets this time. This skirt has a centre front zip that is behind the buttoned up overlap and has pockets either side. To be honest the pockets are largely redundant, too impractical for anything really and if I were to make it again I’d consider incorporating the overlap into the waistband and position the zip at centre back, which would be much quicker to put on.
