“The Sparkly Vicar” Dress.
“Mum, that’s my hat. And why are you dressed as a vicar?”
It’s true. I confess. I bought this sequinned beret for my six year old daughter for Christmas but secretly planned to wear it myself. I am officially a bad parent. And as for the vicar comment – well I can kind of see what she means.
I originally intended to add sequins to the dress as well but in the general spirit of trying to make stuff I will wear regularly I left them off. Maybe if I had added them it would look at touch less ecclesiastical. Anyway,
The Facts
Fabric – Navy blue wool mix suiting. I got about 5 metres off ebay a while back for next to nothing.
Pattern: Peony by Colette
Year: 2011
Notions: Zipper, although I could have got away without it as I can get it on and off without undoing it.
Time to complete: About a day.
First worn: Today, to Canterbury, our nearest city. We fed the ducks, froze our backsides off then had to recover in the pub.
Wear again? Once I have sewn the facings down properly. There are a lot of changes I will make to the fit when I try this pattern again (and I definitely will make it again, it’s a dream to sew and I love the style) but it will do for work.
Total price: Less than £5.00

Three things in list form because, well, I like making lists:
1. I love that you used teh word “ecclesiastical”… I just love the weighty way it sounds!
2. I have sisters that I frequently buy presents for, fully intending to “borrow” said present for an extended period of time.
3. That color blue is fabulous on you!
You are a very saucy vicar! That’s a great pattern
I used this pattern too and in blue! You’re right, it is a dream to sew up. Very well done, it looks great!
I like it, sparkly beret and all. :)
Love that beret and your snazzy vicar dress!
You look really stylish in blue!
Really love it! You could always add a sparkly belt if you wanted to jazz it up for the evening but not the day.
I bought a hot pink sequin beret like that for my mom when I was about your daughter’s age! She never wore it. You look great in the beret and your lovely Peony.
A vicar with good taste in hats! The blue is gorgeous on you.
Thank you all for your lovely comments. @sorbetsurprise – I love the idea of a sparkly belt, I’m going to keep an eye out for one, or stuff to make it.
