The “Sew Sweetness” Introduction
Name and Location: Sara Lawson from Chicago, Illinois
Blog: Sew Sweetness
How long have you been sewing: I learned how to sew in the 3rd grade, but I didn’t take it back up again until I had my first child, 5 years ago. This hobby has turned into an obsession! Now I sew in the evenings after the kids are in bed.
Why did you want to commit to the Sew Weekly Challenge: I greatly admire all the projects and the sheer volume of clothing that has been created! I feel like I have so much more to learn about garment construction, and this is a great place (and group!) to learn from and with!
What do you love most about sewing garments: The look on people’s faces when you can say that you’ve made what you’re wearing! I love being able to choose beautiful fabrics and custom tailor the clothing to my body shape. I’ve always had issues with my body, but sewing my own clothes has definitely helped with that!
What do you hate most about sewing garments: I would like to learn to work with more of a variety of fabrics, up until this point I have only worked with a few, and I feel like I’ve been limiting myself. I need to learn to slow down, I am always in a rush to finish. I don’t like how the insides of my clothing look, I need to finish my seams better.
What do you want to accomplish this year with regard to the challenge: I would like to break out of my comfort zone and wear more handmade items.
Your biggest non-sewing goal of 2012: Spend time with my family and slowly remodel a couple of rooms in our home.
