The “Marmalade” Dress
Name & Location: Reana Louise, Brisbane Australia
Blog: Curves, Patterns, and Pins
How long have you been sewing: Nearly one year!
Why did you want to commit to The Sew Weekly Challenge: Because I’m an over-committer? No, it’s really because I want to be part of this amazing, collaborative, and inspirational society. Now that I’ve (nearly) been sewing for one year I’m interested in bettering my skills, and who better to do it with than you guys?
What do you love most about sewing garments: That I can have a garment that fits me perfectly
What do you hate most about sewing garments: When, mostly because of impatience, I have to get too intimate with my seam-ripper.
What do you want to accomplish this year with regard to the challenge: Create well-made, wearable, fun, and unique garments. Also, to be introduced to some patterns or style I might have never touched otherwise!
Your biggest non-sewing goal of 2012: Complete my honours thesis.
What are your favorite sewing/fashion blogs: I’m a total blog fiend! Oonaballoona, Tick tock vintage, A sewing odyssey, Paunnet…
My favourite dress of 2011 is definitely the most worn one. Swishy skirt and mustard spots? Heaven. The only problem is that the dreamy, buttery linen (which really is dreamy and buttery) crinkles. But, worth it. Swishy skirt and mustard spots, even when crinkly, are totally worth it.
The Facts
Fabric: Echino polka dot fabric, off-white linen, and rayon lining.
Pattern: Burdastyle 02/2011
Year: 2011
Notions: Invisible zip
Time to complete: One week… I think. It was a while ago and I’m hopeless at timing myself.
First worn: In my garden with an empty teacup.
Wear again? It’s definitely the most worn thing in my wardrobe, I love everything about it.
Total price: ~$50.

The linen will quit being so crinkly once it’s “worn in.” Cute dress!
