The “Lost in the woods” dress
Name & Location: Anna, Italy

How long have you been sewing: I learnt as a child, but started sewing “seriously” about 4 years ago.
Why did you want to commit to The Sew Weekly Challenge: I’m great at planning, not so great at making. Having a deadline is a great motivation to keep going.
What do you love most about sewing garments: To have something unique, that is exactly how I wanted it, without having to compromise with what RTW has to offer.
What do you hate most about sewing garments: I have a body that is not the easiest to fit, so I often have problems in this department. And I don’t always make a muslin, so it’s not rare for me to have an almost completed a garment and being so terribly disappointed by the fit when I try it on.
What do you want to accomplish this year with regard to the challenge: I always aim at making something wearable. But I also want to have fun and try some techniques and patterns that I wouldn’t normally go for.
Your biggest non-sewing goal of 2012: Graduating from university. It’s about time.
What are your favorite sewing/fashion blogs: I have a
huge small addiction to sewing blogs… But my all time favorites have to be mokosha, Nette and Félicie à Paris, because not only I adore their creations, but I also feel some kind of a personal connection to these amazing girls.
My favorite dress of 2011 is this Macaron, the second that I’ve ever made from this pattern (and surely not the last). I’ve worn it so much! I love the silhouette, the colours, the print, everything! Also, this misterious-supposedly-Valentino fabric does not crease at all!
I’m also attached to this dress because it was the first time I went in the woods to take photos for my blog and it turned out to be the perfect backdrop, so I’ve used it many more times. In the same period, these woods also became my favorite place to go walking with my dog, when I needed to clear my head or some fresh air. A love story that lasts to this day.
Fabric: black jersey and a printed lightweight mistery fabric which is supposed to be Valentino.
Pattern: Colette’s Macaron
Notions: Invisible zip
Time to complete: An afternoon
First worn: in the woods, to take photos!
Wear again? It is one of my most worn dresses.
Total price: Around 20 euros.
