The “Little Black Lace” Dress

How long have you been Sewing: Just over two years
Why did you want to commit to The Sew Weekly Challenge: Sometimes, I think I am probably the world’s biggest procrastinator. Well, that’s probably not true but I spend an awful lot of time dreaming about things and not actually doing them! I want to push myself creatively and increase my productivity.
What do you love most about sewing garments: I think the inner geek inside me loves the feeling of continually learning something new. I love reading up about different sewing techniques and the tricks of the couturier trade. I also love being able to employ those techniques in the garments that I make, putting in a lapped zipper or lace hem. It makes me value my clothes more than if I were to buy something from somewhere like Primark (a very cheap clothes shop in the UK). I also love the fact that what I am wearing was made by me, it fits me how I want it to fit and that nobody else will have something like it!
What do you hate most about sewing garments: Ripping out seams, it’s just so depressing sometimes. As well as tracing out patterns and cutting out. I never seem to be particularly quick with this process and as I have to do it on my parquet living room floor, my knees invariably take a battering!
What do you want to accomplish this year with regard to the challenge: I really want to see if I can knock out 52 wearable items of clothing. Clothes that I will wear again and are not one-off wonders.
Your biggest non-sewing goal of 2012: Be happy, healthy, get fit and finish my Masters in Public Health Nursing.
What are your favourite sewing/fashion blogs: I particularly love Lazy Stitching, Did You Make that, Pattern Scissors Cloth and the Lingerie Addict!

Thanks so much for the mention! What a gorgeous dress…I’ve always wished I could sew. :)
Thank you treacle!

Hello Charlotte,
Thank you! Yes, strength in numbers, that’s what we need! :-) I loved your Horrocks inspired dress too, in fact I might have to download the same pattern:-)
