The “Helloooo Lace” Skirt

Me in a blue lace skirt I drafted myself

Name & Location: Katie Canavan, Chicago, IL

Blog: Under the Red Umbrella
How long have you been sewing: I took my first quilting class when I was 8 years old, so 20 years!
Why did you want to commit to The Sew Weekly Challenge: In the past year, I’ve knit more than I’ve sewn and I’m looking forward to changing that. I’m also planning a move to LA, so I’ll need a whole new wardrobe for a whole new climate (and life!)
What do you love most about sewing garments: The design and customization process. I also enjoy the actual hand-making process (most of the time), and adding special details like embroidery.
What do you hate most about sewing garments: Sewing machine problems – tension, broken needles and finding the right bobbin
What do you want to accomplish this year with regard to the challenge: I want to create garments that will be worn. I have a tendency to sew fantastic garments and then let them gather dust in the closet. This year I want to create wearable things, and wear my current creations more frequently.
Your biggest non-sewing goal of 2012: A smooth move to LA with patience and grace
What are your favorite sewing/fashion blogs: Made by Rae, Tick Tock Vintage, The Purl Bee, Kendi Everyday, Izznit, Darling Dexter, Elegant Musings, and Anna Maria Horner

Katie Canavan has been described as a "color addict," and loves to put that obsession to good use with her sewing, knitting and general crafting.
