The “Cute shoes ” Skirt
Fabric: A Large Curtain Panel
Pattern: Burda Magazine 06/11 Shirt 117 also used by Gertie in this BurdaStyle Sewalong
Year: 2011
Notions: 4 yds 45″ wide fabric , 8″ zipper
Time to complete: About four hours
First worn: The day after I made it for these pictures – not yet worn out of the house!
Wear again: Not too sure yet – I usually go for stronger colors, and found it hard to match this up with a top.
Total price: Around $3 for the zip and thread – fabric was given free to me:)
My inspiration came from the comfiest shoes I own – they are about four years old, with a lovely wedge heel. I then picked a fabric in my stash that was pink but had a mocha shade going through one of the flowers.
This skirt pattern was used by Gertie in the Burdastyle Sewalong in September last year. I had traced my pattern pieces, but never got round to cutting it out, so I thought now would be a good time.
The fabric was a large curtain panel given to me, it had one very big flower that repeated regularly, with some smaller flowers around. I cut the skirt panels so as to avoid the large flower as it just screamed ‘curtain’.
The skirt went together quite easily, although I changed the waistband to a facing. The hem took forever to sew though! The ten panels need to be sewn separately then the seams were finished.
I really like the fit and shape of the skirt and can see myself making this up again in another fabric. But I’m not entirely sold on this version – the lighter color was difficult to find anything to wear with it – and I added the bright tights to cheer it up a bit and make my shoes stand out better!

I love how you’ve styled the skirt here! The tights, the belt, and the shoes really bring out the fabric.
Thanks Lizz:)
I’m a complete sucker for anything with box pleats! LOVE the skirt; especially with those shoes and that belt!
Love the pleats. I’ve got many pleated skirts in my pinterest that I have intentions around. Looks great!
I love the shape and it’s a perfect fit on you!
I love the skirt! It looks great and the pleats are perfect. I am also a fan of bright tights, I think you could wear it with a bright pink top too.
I really love this pleated skirt pattern. Great job.
As Lizz said, the styling is great! Pink tights definitely punch it up a bit, and those shoes look so comfy :)
I love this skirt! I especially love it with the pink tights and the tan belt. It’s gorgeous – I hope you find other things to wear it with! Have you tried it with blue (pretty much any shade), yellow, or chocolate brown? Even a forest green, maybe?
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone – I agree that a brighter top would give it a bit more life – something else to add to my sewing list!!
