The Bette Davis Safari Frock
Name and Location: Anne B- alias prttynpnk located in the lovely and slightly backward South Carolina,USA
Blog: http://prttynpnk.wordpress.com/ Pretty Grievances- a humble place of sewing and sniping.
How long have you been sewing: Honestly? About 20 years off and on. But sewing effectively and with pride? About a year!
Why did I want to commit to the Sew Weekly Challenge: This group got me started on a deeper love and respect for sewing- a making of art and passing on of skills that my sewing lacked. A lovelier group of people I have yet to meet.
What do you love most about sewing garments: My body flaws are no longer limits- a store size bias cannot hold me back from the styles and trends I’d like to try.
What do you hate most about sewing Garments: Oh, patterns are evil- tracing, marking, notching, etc. Blech. Bring on the handling of fabrics and the joy of seeing a sleeve appear!
What do you want to accomplish this year with regards to the challenge? I want to be fearless and push myself. Locally I have no sewing inspiration- I want the test.
Your Biggest non-sewing goal of 2012: I’d like to push my jobs boundaries and get more involved.
What are your favorite sewing, fashion blogs: The Royal order of Sartorial Splendour, Fahr Trade, Puu’s Door of Time- so many more!!
And now….a little safari trip with Bette Davis I made in November when the weather was just started to get big cat worthy:
The Facts
Fabric: a Lush cheetah hprint corduroy that was even on sale!
Pattern: Simplicity 2174- the most convertible dress ever!
Year: 2011 this was my first winter frock
Notions: a seriously unnecessary zipper and 2 fab buttons- just for show
Time to Complete: 4 days- with lots of pauses- lots of hem avoidance!
First Worn: Surgical Services meeting- it was a chilly morn!
Wear Again: I love this- its swishy and even a little flashy for corduroy- I wear it whenever a cheetah is most needed!
Total Price: .99 pattern, 6 yards of endangered corduroy on sale at Hancock, 2 very fun buttons from the big fabric sale in Iva- about $15. Less than Bette would have paid!
