The “Beads and Bag” Separates
Saying I don’t really wear a lot of accessories is putting it politely. The truth is most days I don’t even remember to put in earrings so my first inclination was to sit this challenge out. Then I remembered this cute beaded necklace that I bought last year and had worn a total of 0 times. Its silver and black with jewel toned beads. As I got going I also mixed in the studded purple bag I got for Christmas, my purple boots that I wear with everything, and my black lace Betsey Johnson boot socks. Pretty good for a girl who doesn’t accessorize if I do say so myself. Too bad I have no idea how to pose with them.
The Facts
Fabric ⁃ The skirt is black stretch twill faced with safety pin quilters cotton. The top is purple bamboo lycra purchased during a store closing sale.
Pattern: ⁃ The skirt is the Colette Meringue. The shirt is a redo of my purple challenge shirt. It started as V1261 but I completely reworked it so that it didn’t just hang in my closet forever.
Year: ⁃Both are modern patterns that came out it 2011.
Notions: ⁃ invisible zipper and thread
Time to complete: ⁃Way more then it should have. I didn’t mark the front and back of the skirt so many debacles followed. Let’s just say the front and back are very similar and you might want to mark them clearly if you make this pattern yourself. Neither would take someone who kept their pieces straight very long.
First worn: ⁃I wore the whole outfit for a downtown date night Friday Jan 6th.
Wear again? ⁃Well I’ve now worn the skirt 3 days in a row so I’d say yes. I promise to wash it before I wear it again. I’m sure the top will see more wear too.
Total price: The skirt was probably about $25 though I may have gotten the fabric on sale. I’m counting the shirt as free since it was a redo of something that would not have been worn.
I’m totally in love with this skirt but the safety pin facing is my favorite part. I’ve gotten so many compliments on it which has been great for my sewing confidence.
