How long have you been sewing: 2+ years

Why did you want to commit to The Sew Weekly Challenge: I’m always inspired by the creations in the Sew Weekly community and want to challenge myself by making something on time and with the specs given by Sew Weekly. Most of what I sew falls into practical, boring to sew simple basics (black pants, black skirts) or vintage dresses, and I want to branch out into more esoteric and unique themes.

What do you love most about sewing garments: I love owning up to my own personal sense of style and wearing something that I know no one else in the room has. I’ve haven’t been too thrilled with the direction ready to wear has been going in the past few years, and I’m glad to participate artistically away from that.

What do you hate most about sewing garments: I hate hand-sewing.

What do you want to accomplish this year with regard to the challenge: I hope to complete my projects in time and experiment with more flat-pattern drafting.

Your biggest non-sewing goal of 2012: To be able to test for the next belt rank in jiu jitsu

  1. That’s great that you sew basics. Sometimes I find I stick to the stuff I might not wear as often!

  2. That’s great that you sew basics! I feel like that’s the last thing I do, but you get so much more wear out of them.
