My “only clothing creation to date” shirt
That is, unless you count that garbled up skirt I made in home economics in the 8th grade. I love to sew but up until now my sewing has consisted primarily of quilts and and craft items.
- A western shirt my mother in law helped me sew several years ago
Name and location: My name is Michelle Crocker and I live in Nashville, Tennessee.
How long have you been sewing: I’ve been sewing since I was about 13, I asked for and got a sewing machine for my birthday that year. Primarily quilts and craft items though.
Why did you want to commit to the Sew Weekly Challenge: I have been an audience member up until now, and have watched the progression of many people’s sewing through this wonderful website. I’ve decided to fulfill my dream of being able to sew my own clothing and I feel like the commitment here will keep me focused.
What do you love most about sewing garments: I love the idea of having garments that fit me well. And being able to create things that are exactly what I want.
What do you hate most about sewing garments: Well since I haven’t done very much of it yet, NOTHING. I already know though, that I’m going to need a zipper at 3am and not be able to get one!
What do you want to accomplish this year with regards to the challenge: I’m hoping to have 52 lovely items to wear!
Your biggest non-sewing goal of 2012: My theme for 2012 is getting things finished up. My oldest daughter will graduate from high school in the spring and I feel like this is a good time to go through my life and either finish, revise the plan or toss.
What are your favorite sewing/fashion blogs:
The Sew Weekly of course! A couple of my other favorites and the ones that got me going on this whole idea are Carolyn at http://handmadebycarolyn.blogspot.com/
and Gertie at http://www.blogforbettersewing.com/
– I visit somewhere around 50 regularly though! I am so touched and inspired by the creativity and perseverance played out on the many sewing blogs I’ve found. I can’t wait to join the community!
