Hot! Introducing…

"The Doodles Dress"

Name & Location: Megan Grandstaff, Chicago, IL, USA

How long have you been sewing: Since 2005.  It was only during the Sew Weekly challenges in 2011 that I finally made something for myself to wear!

Why did you want to commit to The Sew Weekly Challenge: I love the structure it gives my sewing, but also the freedom of interpretation. If I sit down at my sewing machine without a specific goal, I almost get overwhelmed by ideas.  This gives me a chance to channel my efforts into something I will really enjoy.

What do you love most about sewing garments: The first moment I try a garment on and it fits perfectly.

What do you hate most about sewing garments:  Hooks and eyes.  If I can leave them off a garment, I will.

What do you want to accomplish this year with regard to the challenge: I would love to use all of the fabric in my stash!  If I could get through the year without buying any fabric, I think that would be amazing.

Your biggest non-sewing goal of 2012: I would like to run the Princess Half Marathon in 2:45:00 – which would be a big accomplishment considering I’m just getting over a femoral stress fracture!

What are your favorite sewing/fashion blogs: My Happy Sewing Place, Oonaballoona, Colette Patterns, and Gertie’s Blog for Better Sewing.

Meg the Grand

Megan Grandstaff was thrown into the sewing world in 2005. Ever since that fateful day, she has been eager to increase her skills and reduce her (quite large) fabric stash.

  1. I was just saying to Aubry that I wanted to run that race but missed out on the registration. Good luck on the time goal – I’m shooting for 2:50 (and no tears!) for my race in May. :)

  2. Oooh, we’ll both be running in the Disney Princess! WOOHOO! Are you making a costume? I am doing a modified Snow White… the Sparkleskirt is being made for me, but I’m going to modify a blue running top to look more like Snow White’s.

P.S. I avoid hooks/eyes TOO. I’d rather have my zipper slip than deal with hand-stitching.

  3. Ooo, another hook and eye hater. I always try to make my zips go right to the top of the seam so that I never, ever have to sew one.

Looking forward to seeing your makes this year.

  4. So excited you’re a contributer! Can’t wait to see what fab things you make lady!

  5. I’m hoping to sew through my stash this year, too! We can dooo it!!!

@ Crystal – good luck in your race!!! Which one will you be running??
@ Aubrey – OMG you would be the cutest Snow White ever. I’m making an Ariel the Little Mermaid costume. The tights (if they work out) are going to be INSANE. I’m excited to see yours!!

@ Ready – I know, right? Zips right to the top if I can manage it!
