When I think of Spanish-inspired or Latin-themed things, I immediately think of the color red. So it was natural that for my Sew Weekly post this week, I went with the fiery, spicy, hottest red I could find in my local fabric shop in a stretch suiting fabric.

I've always wanted a red pair of pants and, with fall just around the corner, this was the perfect time to add them to my wardrobe! Thankfully, my Colette Clover pattern arrived just in time to make these bad boys!

As always, this pattern was really simple to make and the instructions were very clear. My only issue was that I the crotch is doing one of those fabric frown things and I will need to do some surgery. Anyone have some good tips on tailoring pants?

Pants close upWhy so sad pants?

Also – I chopped all my hair off! Should have done it in May because it would have made this terrible summer more bearable!

  1. Colette Patterns put out a helpful pants fitting cheatsheet!
But lovely pants despite the needed tweak — such a lovely red!

  2. Cute trousers! And I love the haircut. :-)

  3. Great pants!! And I LOVE the new haircut!!

  4. Red pants! I love them! My bible for fitting pants is ‘fitting pants for real people.” It’s not perfect, but I got some great looking pants out of their method.

  5. Those pants are HOT! Love your hair, you look great with this style!

  6. LOVE your hair! Super cute and RED pants are awesome, but sorry ~~don’t know how to ‘fix the frown’.

  7. Hot hot hot! Love the pants, LOVE the hair, love the lippy. Awesome.

  8. Love your color choices!!! I have to admit, I restrict mine to bright lipsticks…

  9. Adorable, top to toes!

  10. You look fantastic. I love your haircut, oh and the trousers are fabulous too :)

  11. You look fantastic. I love your haircut, oh and the trousers are fabulous too :)

  12. Pants are so hard to fit! Everyone does need a red pair of pants, though, for sure! The haircut is darling, it reminds me of Molly Ringwald in 16 Candles – so cute!

  13. Loving the hair and the outfit!

  14. YAY! Love your haircut so much!
AND, these are the FIRST Colette trousers I’ve seen made up! Woo hoo! Is your white blouse the same pattern as last week? It looks SO comfortable! xoxo

  15. 1000% kudos to you for making pants, the Black Hole of the sewing universe (or maybe just my sewing universe)! I have severe pantsphobia…. I have a pattern for wide leg pants, I have two lots of fabric and muslin fabric but it remains in my leaning tower of “one day” projects.
I love the colour and your new hair! I hope you can turn that frown upside down! Unless that’s another fitting issue… is smiling as bad as frowning? I guess a smiling crotch may be a distraction to some people… I need to stop the typing now.

  16. Great pants! Since you mentioned JoAnns (which I shop at too) you have to tell me which suiting you used for these, please. Also your haircut is so extremely flattering! It changes your look so much gives you a edgier vibe.

  17. OMG – I love this sheet! As soon as this posted, I noticed her blog post and was like “YESS!” Totally making a new muslin for these pants and fitting them for my super long torso!

  18. Sweet – thanks Rosered! Can’t wait to get this book! Also, thank you! I am so remaking these in red when I get the fit right!

  19. Thank Pepper Red – I love the red and might have some leads on how to fix these (huzzah!!)

  20. Thank you so much Cissi!

  21. Thank you so much Lisette!!

  22. Thank lady! It is the same pattern from last week – first one of that pattern I made and I love that shirt!

  23. Girl – I hear you! Pants are hard – see the smiley crotch (LOL – LOOK AT MY CROTCH)? I am stumped as to why that happens!!! I need to revisit this pattern and learn to fit it correctly – it’s so cute!!
Thank you so much for the hair love!

  24. Thanks lsapacey! I used some stretch twill in the suiting area of JoAnns – it was on sale and you can use the 40% off coupon on it!
