Last year I went as Lady Gaga… made a hat shaped like a telephone out of cardboard, glued cigarettes to my glasses… it was awesome!
Last year I made an “iPod” costume for my daughter. Also I made our foreign exchange student into an ice cream cone. Both ideas came from Family Fun.
Oh, wow. This brings me back. A year or so after Titanic the movie came out, I made an outfit inspired by Rose’s sapphire velvet tunic/skirt combo–commonly known as the “flying” dress. Except mine was emerald, and the skirt was velvet instead of satin, and the lapels and obi-style sash were sage-green silk Chinese brocade in a chrysanthemum pattern. Sigh… so pretty, so warm on a chilly fall night! And I had a Gibson Girl wig (a little earlier than the 19-teens, but close enough). Unfortunately, I also added white face paint in an attempt to be a drowned Titanic passenger–and ended up looking like a Geisha until I washed it off half-way through the night. Still have that costume…Hmm.
I love Halloween! I always dress up. My most memorable costume is very confusing for those who weren’t part of the inside joke. It came from a Saturday Night Live skit from season 23 with host Steve Buschemi on “Stuff We Made” my friends and I were “scare Jeffers” . Oh to be 15 again.
When I was young and thinner, I made myself a red satin Playboy bunny costume. Oh to be so brave again.
i have a few favorites including xena warrior princess, tomb raider’s lara croft (years before she went mainstraeam;), leeloo from the fifth element, and princess leia in her gold slave bikini. i too, wish i was young and thin again!!
