Once, while looking for the perfect sailor pants pattern, I stumbled upon this awesome outfit. Red and white sweater? Check. Adorable sailor pants? Check! Blog that details sewing projects, one garment a week? I was in heaven. I clickity clicked all around that site for what seemed like hours. It quickly moved to the top of my Google Reader and inspired me to sew more often.
Fast forward a little over a year and boom – I get to blog about sewing an outfit a week with a bunch of talented ladies doing the same thing! Talk about lucky!
For this homage, I decided to recreate the pants that started it all – adorable sailor pants! The pattern, a simple wide leg jean, was amended to fit this challenge and saved from the UFO bin (I had cut this pattern a year or so ago and never made it!)
I omitted the fly front and moved the zipper to the side. I also took out the back pockets and added three vintage buttons on each front pocket. It was very simple and straightforward, though I don't recommend these patterns for beginners – they are a bit light on the directions. The fabric was a lightweight denim – a must have in humid Texas!
I LOVE these pants! They're perfect for work or for hanging out on the weekends. And for eating Popsicles!
