Calling all Gatsby-Goers!

image from artdecosociety.orgThe Gatsby Summer Afternoon is less than two weeks away and I haven't even finished my dress! As you may recall, I was last trying to decide whether to restore or reproduce a dress for the picnic.

While I made the decision to restore, the dress had other plans for me. It was far more delicate and fragile than I had initially thought and all restoration had to be abandoned. Working with this dress was like working with the Ark from Indiana Jones — all I have to do is look at it for it to dissolve right in front of my eyes. Actually, it wasn't the Ark that dissolved, it was the Nazis. Either way, the fabric was fragile.

I'll be posting more about the dress closer to the date.

But now, more importantly, let's talk about the picnic itself. Our fabulous Debi will be flying all the way out from Scotland to make the picnic! I'm so terribly excited! It will be a perfect place for us to have a Sew Weekly meetup. So, if you're planning to attend, please let me know in the comments. Or, if you're a bit shy, send me an email via the contact form. We'll talk about the logistics of meeting up and all that great stuff.

  1. I’ll be there

  2. I, too, am currently in the process of making several fabulous outfits to go to the picnic!! I would LOVE to meet up with you guys : ) We are going to be taking a small 30′s style picnic and accessories and camp out whilst getting pics for the blog. Let me know how to meet up with you other than walking around…I’ll be in lavender and white polka dots (and quite possible flip-flops if my foot isnt’ healed enough to get my correct shoes on) with a lavender straw hat. SO excited!!!

  3. I had planned on going, but I was out of the country much of August, which hasn’t left me much time for any sewing. It’s hard to imagine how anything will get done this week as well as I have so much to catch up with at home and at work. But, I’ll try as I’d love to be a part of a meet up like this one!

  4. I wish I could be there! I don’t even have time to sew anything for it, I’ll be too busy making a giant bluebird costume :(

  5. Ticket is booked! Parasol in hand, pattern is purchased and I’m off to start cutting it out now. Can’t wait to see all of the Sew Weekly ladies!

  6. Gosh darn it, I just saw this :( Im super bummed because I wouldve loved to meet you all since I didnt know many people. Next year I will seek you out for sure!
