Yes ! Sometimes, if you don’t fold the fabric absolutely perfectly, the plaid won’t be the same on both sides, so I make a full size pattern and then cut it out.
I put little tacking stitches in where the main pattern lines meet before machining. This stops the fabric shifting under the foot. Looks good when the lines meet!
Use a walking foot, it keeps your presser foot and feed dogs from pulling and pushing your fabric through the machine at different speeds.
Great tips!
I trace the lines of the plaid onto critical areas on the pattern piece so each time I cut that pattern piece, the plaid is in the same place. This also helps when cutting corresponding pieces so the plaid lines up properly. Actually, I do this with any print I need to match or at least line up.
I cut one piece and line it up against the piece it will be sewn to as I pin the next piece. It takes longer to cut things out but they line up well.
