MTL: Day After Day Dress
Today's MTL is another request — I received this email this morning and knew exactly the pattern to use. It's actually a repeat pattern previously used with the Mint Floral Border Dress.

I've been avidly reading MTL and have been holding off because, really, I want to make everything I see in the shops! Until now….I've never heard of Modcloth, being a Brit who lives in Lebanon, but since its been mentioned so may times on MTL and elsewhere in the world of blogsville, i thought I'd check it out. Uh-oh, now i really want to make everything i see on there! However two things have particularly tickled my fancy and narrowing it down is almost impossible. However, these important decsions have to be made! So, without further ado, please MTL the Day after Dress. I've even got the exact fabric sitting in my stash! To be honest, there's a lot of polka dot in there, it never gets boring!
Per Layla's request, here you all go:
Original Inspiration
- Day after Day Dress from modcloth.com ($99.99)
Resources
- Fabric: Pin Dot Red ($4.98/yard from Fabric.com)
- Pattern: Simplicity 2180
Tips
- Add white piping at the waist and around the front collar band.
- Try modifying the included pattern sleeves from view "E" to form shorter cap sleeves.

Oh I have this fabric already too! I’m heading out now to pick up the pattern!
BTW – The drawing references Butterick 2180, but the link is for Simplicity 2180
Love this edition of MTL!
I have been wanting this pattern forever and I just picked it up yesterday (with some sage polka dot fabric!) What timing!! (now to get some piping!)
I adore this modcloth dress and would love to make one myself but the pattern you referenced, Butterick 2180 doesn’t seem to exist…
Erin, the pattern you need is simplicity 2180. The link takes you to the right pattern. The dress is view A in the floral print.
What a fun idea…I might just check out this pattern this weekend! It even has a fun back that you could modify. (The back of that Modcloth dress is really cute!)
This is fabulous! The pattern looks great, definitely a good investment as I can see myself making many variants. I think this might be my next project. It’s great for summer but with a nice cardie and tights can go on well into Autumn and Winter.
This is lovely. And the link does work. It’s just the picture that is wrong as it says Butterick instead of Simplicity.
Thank you so much Mena! Just what i wanted, now to get pattern and piping…You might have to wait a while to see results but hopefully not too long. Thanks again.
I have my eye on that modcloth dress too but I see it more being knocked-off with S2588:

Ok next problem! Can’t buy this pattern anywhre! Found it on Simplicity’s website but they want me to spend something stupid like 25 bucks on shipping…no. Then found it on amazon but they wont ship to me. Anyone got one they want to sell me?
