How far is too far when embracing the nautical look? Would you ever wear a middy?

  1. What’t a middy? that’s what we call a small glass of beer! Do you mean a midrif top? If so – no not after two kids!

  2. I think you mean a sailor collar, yes? I loved them in elementary school and I still might be persuaded to wear a small one. Perhaps on a white blouse? Folkwear patterns style? OK, YES I would wear one!

  3. I have and when I’m back to a size 8 I will again : )

  4. I associate the middy with the color pink — not because I’ve ever seen a pink middy, but because both were things I flat-out refused to wear as a child. I’m 32 and just now getting around to pink … I don’t think I see a middy in my future …

  5. I LURVE middies. Can I wear one? That question remains. I am a ‘V’ shape (broadest part of my body is my shoulders. I suspect that if I wore one I would ACTUALLY look like a sailor! I just can’t decide if that is a good thing or a bad thing!

  6. Oh yes, I am going to wear a middy – that’s a promise!

  7. I thought a middy was a member of the ship’s crew – I definitely won’t wearing one of those!

  8. I would have said no way until I came across this pattern:

and a little more inspiration on this pattern (a really nice variation, I think):
