Hot! MTL: Make Fleur Own Music Dress

For this week's newsletter*, I introduced the Make This Look feature. Here's what I wrote:

Make This Look aims to break down ready-to-wear looks into bitesize sewable inspirations. Whether it's a cure for sewer's block, a way to create something that will actually fit just right or simply a way not to spend $200 on a mass-produced slip-dress, Make This Look is meant to embrace the slow clothes movement.

If you're a Tumblr user, you can follow Make This Look over at If you're not, don't worry, this feature will remain part of The Sew Weekly. If you've seen a look that you would like The Sew Weekly to give the MTL treatment, drop us a line with a link to the original garment.

*Yes, there's a Sew Weekly email newsletter that attempts to be a weekly mailing. In it, I reveal next week's theme, feature community creations and write about something happening that week. You can subscribe over here.

Onto today's MTL!

Original Inspiration

Mena Trott

Mena Trott started The Sew Weekly to document her attempt to sew all of her own clothes in 2010. Since then, she's made over 125 outfits and has way more clothes than she needs.

  1. oooh ….this is pretty..Love the fabric.

  2. I’m a RSS follower but I wanted to come over to tell you how much I’m loving the Make This Look features. It helps me show others that starting to make your own clothes doesn’t mean you start wearing prairie dresses and 70’s pantsuits. Thanks!
