Hot! Introducing The Seven in Seven Challenge

You know what they say about sharks? That unless they keep swimming, they die? Well, I'm a shark. If I don't have something overly-ambitious to keep myself busy, I start going a bit crazy.

Well, here's my latest don't-go-crazy project: The Seven in Seven Challenge.

Seven-boxWhat is it?
In the course of seven days, I'll make seven dresses from the Colette Pattern catalog. With the exception of Crepe, I haven't made any of these up before.

Why are you doing this?
See above shark metaphor. Also, I want to see if I actually can do it. I may not be able to.

How do we know you didn't have these dresses already made?
To show that I'm not cheating at the challenge, I thought about showing a daily newspaper alongside the raw materials for each dress. But then I figured, you guys are a trusting lot. So instead of going the daily newspaper route, I'm going to let the readers decide which fabrics I should use for each dress. That way, until the poll results are in, I won't be able to start. That said, I'll probably run multiple polls at a time so that I can get a headstart.

When will you start each dress?
Once I get fifty votes for one particular fabric, I'll start. So make this easy on me and vote early! Also, help spread the word about this challenge since I can always use the pressure motivation!

Are others invited to participate?
If this works out (and doesn't kill me), I'll invite others to play along. If you're interested in doing it in the future, let me know.

Colette Patterns generously donated each of the dress patterns that I will be sewing. Thanks Sarai and the CP gang!

Which patterns will you be sewing?
CrepeRooibosOolongMacaronParfaitEclair and  Chantilly.

When does this project start?
Tomorrow, May 11th 2011.

  3. You really are a sewing warrior.
I wish I were able make one of these dresses in seven days… I guess that makes me a sewing toddler!

  4. I’ve owned the Chantilly pattern and still haven’t made it! I hope this motivates me to at least buy some fabric for it. Good luck!

I have too many fitting issues to be able to make a dress in a day :( I’ll get faster though the more I practice! :)

  7. Wow, I’m blown away! But, if anyone can do it, it’s definitely you! I’m guessing you will have to cut the Oolong pieces out on the same day you’re sewing another to allow them to hang overnight? :)
I hope Sarai brings back the Chantilly pattern! I will blog about this challenge to help with the fabric choices!

  8. Wow! Looks super fun! Can’t wait to see all of your dresses! Not sure I could handle 7 dresses in 7 days…

  9. WHOA. That’s all I can say. I can’t wait to see them all come together!

  10. Wow!
Are you also working during these 7 days?

  11. I LOVE this challenge, and would love to have 7 Collette dresses! Each stipulation just makes it better and better. I would totally be interested in joining in next time!

  20. margueritedesigns

I can see you’re going to have to shut yourself away in a darkened room with a wet towel round your head after doing this! Saying that, if you want to, go for it! Look forward to seeing the fabric choices …

  21. That’s one crazy challenge! Crazy but cool. :)
I’m pretty sure you can do it and I’d love to help by voting!

  22. You are totally amazing! I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Bring on the fabric votes!

  23. judy roberson

Cant wait to see what your dresses look like.. How fun.. I so admire you.. Where do you go to vote for the fabric. That will be so much fun for us too..

  24. If I had the time, I still don’t think I would be able to complete this challenge – But it is so worth setting a big test. We look forward to your victory and your expanded wardrobe.

  25. You ROCK!!

  26. Where can I vote??

  27. And to think I thought you might like a week off sometime!!! hahahahh!!!! I think you’re crazy…. but can’t wait to see you pull this one off! If anyone can do it.. you can Mena!

  28. Wowza! That is an ambitious challenge. There is not way I could do that but you are a sewing god so I am positive you will make it happen. Can’t wait to see the fabric choices and vote.

  29. Guess I’m a shark as well – as soon as I started reading about this challenge I was like, yeah, I wanna do that, too!!! Eep.
Can’t wait to see what you make! :-)

  30. Good Luck Mena! Colette patterns are lovely to work through so I’m sure it will be a piece of cake. I managed the Macaron in a day,
I totally think your nuts but I also thought, I could attempt that, but maybe give me 7 weeks…

  31. Wow, ambitious. I know you can do it, you have made sewing skillz!

  32. I’m really excited about this! Seeing as it takes about 3 weeks for me to finish anything, I think this might be a bit ambitious for me. But I can’t wait to see what you come out with! x

  33. Wow! What a challenge! I look forward to seeing the results!

  34. wow, what a great idea. i’m sure you will rock it!

  35. Honey you are possibly slightly crazy-but we love you! My mind is utterly boggled with this idea (and your description of it as “over ambitious!-understatement of the year!). Best of of luck with it all -you are an inspiration and a joy to (sort of!) know!

  36. How do you do all this and spend time with your handsome husband and beautiful daughter and you work too?!! You must burn the midnight oil long into the wee hours, girl.

  37. What a great idea. I can’t wait to see all of these made up. I think it sounds like a very fun future challenge, although I would need more than a day to make each one.

  38. Wow, girl, I don’t know how you do it! I’m pooped after a month of SW projects and my thumb is damaged as well from the handsewing. Best of luck!
