How long on Etsy: As Nimblejacks sine 2009

Do you sew for yourself? I wish I had the time, I am constantly sewing custom orders when I'm not making for my Etsy shop so somehow I never quite get to make myself anything! I have made myself a Revvy reversible sling bag this week though in lovely denim and pink fabrics, as a mum you can never have a big enough bag for all your famiy's belongings. I don't mind not sewing for me, making custom orders is so much fun.

Any new projects? Hopefully within the next two weeks I will have my own Nimblejacks website running alongside my Etsy shop. I under took a custom order for a freind to make a giant 6ft x 4ft fuzzy felt stand for a show – which she paid for by designing me a website, which was wonderful. Social networking and brainstorming is a great way to further your business and make new contacts. Todat I'm playing about with some new bag designs, pincushions and wooly cushions so keep your eyes on my shop for new arrivals.

Your own fav Etsy purchase ever? These Long Stemmed Sterling Silver Flower Post Earrings from the shop, Metal Rocks. These were bought as a gift for my Mum and they were beautiful, very well crafted and designed. Not at all heavy but at the same time not flimsy. A lovely seller to deal with she was very helpful and the earrings came in a cute box as well. So gorgeous I was nearly tempted to keep them- luckily I wrapped them up for my mum who was delighted with them. I may have to go back for more :D

Thanks, Claire! Be sure to visit her Etsy shop and check out her other pincushions for sale!

  1. I’ve never felted my own wool, but I would like this pin cushion. It’s very cute.

  2. I love felt! It’s such a thankful material to work with, easy to manipulate and you can do so much with it. Even though I have worked with it a lot, I’ve never tried felting wool myself, but it’s definitely something that’s on my someday-one-day-list. :)

  3. I’ve never tried felting – unless jumpers in the wrong washing machine cycle count.

  4. never felted, but I have washed wool then pteased it out and useded it with a peg loom to make little mats, cushioms for your chair. Very rustic but lovely

  5. I made a blanket out of felted sweaters last year, needless to say the fabric is now very pilled but my boyfriend won’t let me re use it for anything else as he says it’s the warmest and softest of all our blankets.

  6. I’d never even heard of felting until I met a lady on the train last December who was felting a Christmas gift.. I then spent the next couple hours asking her question after question about the craft!
I have, however, used that (horrible) craft felt you can buy in 8×10 sheets to sew puppets for childrens puppet shows! That was my only knowledge of felt before that chance meeting on the train. :)

  7. I don’t felt unless it is by mistake. LOL I washed a wool Afghan that my husband’s G-ma made and it was just one sort of hard piece of felt after the washing and drying.

Some years ago, I wrote my textiles dissertation on the Felt Hatting industry in Denton, Manchester. There’s a copy of it in Stockport ‘Hatworks’ museum. I recently bought a kit to make a felted rose corsage and I’m looking forward to doing it and trying it out for myself.

  9. I’ve never felted my own wool. One day I’d like to try it though…. It just looks so pretty and soft and fluffy and warm! (I think I need more crafting hours in my day first however….!)

  10. I have never felted anything! I’ve watched a lady doing it at a market once and have been intrigued but at the moment it remains on my “skills I’d be interested in acquiring at some future stage of my life” list

  11. No. I have never felted.. but sounds interesting.

  12. No, I’ve never felted wool. But the pin cushion is cute and it would look good on my sewing table :)

  13. My one attempt at felted wool resulted in a botched purse…however, I would like to try it again someday.

  14. I’ve never felted anything but it’s on my list of techniques to try out!

  15. I haven’t felted anything, but I may try to felt a pair of slippers some day.

  16. I’ve made fulled (knitted and felted) slippers for Christmas gifts.

  17. I’ve accidentally felted wool…whoops! I guess I didn’t want that sweater after all…stupid dryer…grumble grumble.

  18. I’ve never tried myself, but I have used wool felt before, its a very different type of fabric. I love the cupcake!

  19. I used to make lots of soft sculptures and dolls out of felted sweaters. Looking at that cupcake makes me want to get back at it!

  20. What a cute pincushion today! But, no, I’ve never done anything with felted wool…
