Hot! Yay Pattern Storage Bags!

Lauren's great post about pattern preservation and organization was the kick I needed to get serious about taking better care of my patterns. So based on her recommendation, I ordered 700 modern sized comic book bags from Amazon. They're $8.61 for a one hundred bags, but they're eligible for free shipping with Amazon Prime. I had mine in two days and I can proudly say that 550 of my best patterns are now very cozy and protected. The next step for me is purchasing storage containers since the drawers of my previous method (an Ikea dresser) basically collapsed under the weight of my patterns.

In related news, I was asked by Denise over at The Blue Gardenia to show my sewing space. I'll provide a link once it has been published.

Mena Trott started The Sew Weekly to document her attempt to sew all of her own clothes in 2010. Since then, she's made over 125 outfits and has way more clothes than she needs.

  1. You’ll provide a link once the space has been cleaned up enough to show?

  2. I was waiting for that comment in person rather than in comment form. As it so happens, I cleaned the room *before* the interview request. It’s actually almost presentable now. And, for the record, I’m very clear in the interview that I’m a slob. I keep it real.

  3. Join the club. If I had to show my work space I had have to spend a month cleaning it just to get half way presentable. A cluttered space usually means a creative mind.

  4. That is a great price for the bags. I wonder if you can buy a few at a time if you go into the comic book store? I will try because I have a few from the 40’s I want to preserve. Thanks for the tip. I know comic book bags are archival quality.

  5. You know, years ago my now 33 yr old son gave me a batch of his prev. used comic bags…. I’ve been using them for many years, and they do a great job of protecting my patterns from getting snagged and torn! Good for you! The things we take for granted hmmmm?
